The Zelph was initially a test bed for a
different engine placement. Although the performance of the
original design were acceptable, the prototype never went into
production. Three years later, a new design of the concept was
unveiled. The engines of the Zelph have been modified for
increased power. The Grav'generators located in the engine
nacelles are smaller but produce the same output as those of the
prototype.
The Zelph is equipped with two outboard laser cannons
instead of the prototype's four. Given the speed and
maneuverability of the Zelph, this is considered a small price
to pay. When used in space combat, the craft can be fitted with small
missile pods. The Zelph has proven to be effective in
and out of zero-g environments.
