In early 1980s, after I first joined STARFLEET and beamed aboard the USS Alaric. I pursued an interest in cryptography and Captain D.J. Smith of the USS Encounter and I developed the STARFLEET Code Book. It was about 150 pages of fantastic and comprehensive Star Trek cryptographic information. The book was copyrighted and passed around in electronic and printed form. In late August 2003, while purging my STARFLEET files, I came across one of tattered printed version, which at that point resembled the Dead Sea scrolls. After some deep thought and talk with the marvelous staff at STARFLEET Academy, I asked if I could develop courses in cryptography. I was given the green light. It took me about 2 hours (or so) per course, to develop all of the courses in this series. It may take you considerably longer to take even one of these courses. Enjoy
Whether you are a new student or a returning student at Starfleet Academy (see Link), prepare to be challenged, frustrated and delighted. Unlike other Academy courses, I expect that these courses will take students a bit more time, and a bit more research your answers and analyzing codes. These courses introduce you to the world of cryptography and signal communication from it's conception to uses in the 24th century. Te information and exams presented in this series grow progressively challenging so you must complete them one at a time If you have access to the Internet (and you do if you can read this), you can find almost all the solution to most of the general questions, except for the cryptographic exercises. We have also provided links to some general STARFLEET and cryptographic information on some of the related pages. These courses were designed to challenge you. Any students who can pass this course are definitely the Best of the Best
Grading System
100% : Distinction 90% - 99% - Honors 70% - 89% - Pass
If you score below 70%, you will be given the opportunity to retake the test to correct the answers you missed. You will be notified by the instructor as to which answers you missed. If you have to retake the test, you will not be able to earn a result of “Distinction.”
Prepare to be challenged, and enjoy.
