Discussion: The
Laboratory Report is
divided into six
distinct
paragraphs that are
listed and explained
below. Each report
submitted will include all
paragraphs in a clear and
concise manner. The
Laboratory Report may be
written in cursive or be
done on a computer. Also
available are a
printer friendly blank
report and an
example Laboratory
Report to assist
students in understanding
what is required.

Purpose
|
This paragraph states the
purpose of the experiment.
One or two sentences are
all that is required.

Hypothesis
|
This paragraph states what
is expected to happen when
the experiment is
performed. This paragraph
is best completed before
beginning the experiment
so that an "educated
guess" can be made as to
the expected results. One
or two sentences are all
that is
required.

Materials
|
This paragraph lists all
the materials and their
purpose that are used
during the
experiment. The
format for this section
need only be a listing of
materials with their
purpose.

Procedures
|
This paragraph states each
step in the sequence of
steps necessary to
complete the experiment.
The format for this is a
numbered list of complete
sentences outlining the
procedural steps from
beginning to the end of
experiment.

Results
|
This paragraph states the
actual, observed results
of the experiment. All
observations that relate
to the experiment should
be recorded in complete
sentences.

Conclusions
|
This paragraph states the
conclusions reached as a
result of performing the
experiment. It is
important to relate the
conclusions to the
"Hypothesis" that was made
before the experiment
began. A statement
concerning the
reasonableness of the
"Hypothesis" should also
be made. This paragraph
should be complete
sentences and not phrases.
