Roofing Calculator

Terminology

The following are definitions that apply to this calculator only. Please refer to the Terminology sections of the individual calculators that you are using to ensure correct material outputs. You may also wish to view the graphic after the Terminology section.

  1. Height - The distance as measured from the ridge or peak of the roof to the edge or drip line of the roof. The measurement from the tippy top to the bottom edge of the roof.
  2. Width - The measurement that is opposite of the above statement. Measuring from side to side of the house, while on the roof. The measurement of the non-gable end of the roof. The measurement of the fascia that corresponds to the non-gable end drip edge, irrespective of the difference between gable and/or hip roofs.
  3. Layout - This calculator factors a 5" layout only. Please visit our Products Page for a listing of more comprehensive products.
  4. Waste - The shingle pieces you will throw away when cutting the shingles to fit your roof. Please choose the amount of waste you would like calculated. 10% waste is common on gable end roofs and 15% waste is common on hip roofs.
  5. Mirror - If this item is checked, we will calculate the material needed for both sides of the roof.
