Stories of the 2nd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery Hawk, Elijah My great great grandfather, Elijah Hawk was raised in Fayette County. He enlisted in the 2nd Pennslyvania in January of 1862. Elijah was assigned to Battery K and served at the Defenses of Washington. In February of 1864, with just 2 years expired of his 3 year term, Elijah reenlisted for another 3 year term on the condition that he would be allowed leave at his home state for at least 30 days. He did return home and on March 21 1864 married his bride, Susannah Hiles. As a result of this union, their first son, James W Hawk was born in January of 1865. At the time Elijah was on duty with his regiment around Petersburg Virginia. Elijah made it through the war and was mustered out in 1866 with the rest of his battery. When Elijah returned home , He and Susannah were parents to 7 other children. Elijah died in 1864. Jim Horton |
