April 17, 2007 -

The day of Erics surgery was stressful to say the least. We arrived at the hospital at 6:30am and poor Eric is so terrified of doctors and hospitals that he starts screaming the minute anyone comes near him. So before he has surgery I always insist that he gets a sedative through his g-tube to calm him down. They took him back to the OR at around 7:30, and then we waited. Dr. Bradleys amazing NP Cathy gave us reports every hour.  He was out of surgery and in the ICU by around 2:00pm. The surgery went well and they will be monitoring him much closer now. We hope that he doesn't have to go through any more heart surgeries but there is no guarantee. So for now we are just grateful that Eric is still with us and that he is still such a happy little boy. He inspires us with his resilience and love.

  April 04, 2007-

April 4, 2007- Eric had a cardiology check-up, during the echocardiogram they discovered another small aneurysm on his ascending aorta. The only symptom was that his blood pressure had been running high, (I check it at home). He was admitted to the hospital that day to control his blood pressure and to find out if his surgeon wanted to operate. Eric was released from the hospital on the 7th, his blood pressure was well under control and his surgeon wanted to discuss Eric's case with the surgical team. Although we were quite upset we were happy to have him home for Easter.

Eric's wonderful surgeon Dr. Bradley called me and it was decided that he will have his aneurysm repaired on the 17th of this month.

August 21, 06 -

Eric will have a dental cleaning and while in the OR the cardiologist will do an echocardiogram and EKG to make sure no more cardiac problems are going on. .........

Echo was done and the cardiologist said his heart and surrounding areas look good. Yay!!

March 8th 2006 -

Eric went to the cardiologist for a check up. He had heart surgery on June 30, 2005 and Dr. Forbus wanted to see how his heart was holding up. He had a sedated echocardiogram as usual, and unfortunately they found a large ascending aortic aneurysm. He was admitted to the hospital immediately and we were taken down to get a CT scan. They confirmed the aneurysm and Eric was put on medication to lower his blood pressure, to reduce the risk of rupturing.
On March 9, 2006 Eric was scheduled for surgery to repair his aneurysm. It was a nerve racking experience. The surgeon, Dr. Bradley was honest with us and indicated to us that he was unsure of how the outcome of Erics surgery would be. There was a real possibility that our little guy could die. We were all nervous wrecks until around 3 hours into the surgery when Dr. Bradleys NP Cathy came in and told us they got past Erics sternum without hitting the aneurysm. Hearing this was a huge relief to us and it was a step in the right direction.
After about six hours in surgery Eric was alive and the aneurysm was repaired. We were so happy.
Eric was in the hospital for 6 days he was discharged on March 14,2006 Yay. He had a quick cardiology check-up on the 20th, and so far everything looks great. He goes back in one month and then in 5 months for an echocardiogram.
So hopefully things will return to normal and we won't have anymore "surprises".

January 23, 06-

Eric had bilateral hamstring and heel cord release to help his severe contractures. He was put in full leg casts for 3 weeks and was out of school for several months getting intensive home PT.

December 2005 -

Right side was repaired, although around Christmas time Eric had to go into the hospital because he caught a virus which caused him to vomit so much he got dehydrated. He got out 2 days before Christmas.

November 2005-

Eric had a left orchiopexy. Which is pulling the left testicle down into its rightful "place". He stayed overnight and was pretty uncomfortable for the next few weeks.

June 29, 2005

Eric had open heart surgery to repair his severe SVAS. The surgery went well,  but we were shuffled out of the hospital after 3 days. After bringing Eric home he began vomiting blood. After going through the peds ER, Eric was readmitted to the hospital. His RBC count was low, so he received several blood transfusions. They scoped his stomach  via laparoscope and found he had a large ulcer. After an extended stay in the hospital he was released the day before his 7th birthday July 13, 05.
