One of the students shown was Clarence Nevelle Sprott.
This photo and the next two were provided by the Grandson of Clarence Sprott,
Jim Sprott, Jr. of Manning.

In 1927 this was the Manning High School Football team. On the back row from left
to right they were: Whitmer Shope; Conyers Horton; Warren Horton; Lional Harvin.
On the front row from left to right they were: Howard Dobson; Duck Wells;
Fant Broadway; Jebby Arant; Dick Thompson; Ashley Rigby; Jim Sprott.
Two were not present - Lawrence Burgess and Billy Nimmer.

This building now stands behind the Methodist Church in Manning and functions as
the Young Men's Bible Class. The only student known is Augusta (Gussie) Sprott in
the back row (in front of the tree). In 1894 there were 35 schools in Clarendon
County with teachers earning a grand total of $20 per year.
